The Pink Panther is de originele soundtrack, gecomponeerd en gedirigeerd door Henry Mancini voor de film The Pink Panther uit 1963 van Blake Edwards. Het album werd uitgebracht in 1963 door RCA Victor.[2]
Achtergrond
De partituur werd uitgevoerd door Henry Mancini and His Orchestra en opgenomen in de RCA Victor's Music Center of the World in Hollywood. De muziek werd opgenomen door geluidstechnicus Jim Malloy. Liner notes komen van Peter Sellers, vertolker van het personage Jacques Clouseau.
De titelsong, "The Pink Panther Theme", werd uitgebracht als single. Het bereikte de top 10 van de Amerikaanse Billboard Adult Contemporary-hitlijst. De kenmerkende tenorsaxofoon van Plas Johnson is te horen op de openingstitels.
In oktober 1965 ontving het album in de Verenigde Staten de status goud (500.000 verkopen) door de Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).[3]
In 2001 werd het soundtrackalbum bekroond met een Grammy Hall of Fame Award. In 2005 stond de muziek op nummer 20 in de AFI-lijst van 100 jaar filmmuziek.
