Kaupichthys is een geslacht van straalvinnige vissen uit de familie van valse murenen (Chlopsidae).[1] Het geslacht is voor het eerst wetenschappelijk beschreven in 1943 door Leonard Peter Schultz en vernoemd naar de Duitse visdeskundige Johann Jakob Kaup.
