Harlan Jay Ellison (Cleveland (Ohio), 27 mei 1934 - Los Angeles, 28 juni 2018) was een Amerikaans schrijver van sciencefiction en fantasy en criticus. Ellison was een van de grootmeesters van het korte verhaal en de novelle en heeft een indrukwekkende hoeveelheid literaire prijzen vergaard (zie onderstaand overzicht).

Ellison schreef voor de originele serie van Star Trek en was creatief adviseur voor de televisieseries The Twilight Zone (jaren 80 versie) en Babylon 5. Ook was hij redacteur van de succesvolle bloemlezingenserie Dangerous Visions.
