Edgar Allan Poe Award

De Edgar Allan Poe Award (vaak ook kortweg Edgar Award of Edgar genoemd) is een prijs die jaarlijks wordt uitgereikt door de Mystery Writers of America[1] aan boeken, televisieseries, theaterproducties en films (zowel fictie als non-fictie) binnen het mystery-genre. De prijs is vernoemd naar de Amerikaanse schrijver Edgar Allan Poe.

De Edgar Allan Poe Awards werden voor het eerst uitgereikt in 1946, toen alleen nog in de categorieën beste eerste roman, beste scenario (film en televisie), beste mysterykritiek en beste radiodrama. Hier kwamen na verloop van tijd categorieën bij en vielen andere af. De jury reikt sinds 1955 ook een oeuvreprijs uit (de Grand Master Award) voor iemands totale bijdrage aan het genre. Die wordt in sommige jaren ook wel eens niet of juist aan meerdere mensen tegelijk uitgereikt.
