1989/90 was het 52e seizoen van de Liga 1 en het 72ste kampioenschap van Roemenië.
Tijdens dit seizoen werd het communistische regime omver geworpen. Politieclub Victoria Boekarest en Olt Scornicești, dat door dictator Nicolae Ceaușescu gesteund werd, werden na de winterstop uit de competitie gezet wegens onregelmatigheden in de voorgaande seizoenen. Alle tegenstanders kregen in de terugronde een 3-0-overwinning toegekend. De wedstrijd tussen Victoria en Olt werd niet in de tabel opgenomen, waardoor zij officieel maar 33 wedstrijden op het scorebord hebben.
