Bryopsis is een van de zes geslachten uit de familie van de Bryopsidaceae, de orde Bryopsidales, klasse Ulvophyceae volgens de inventarisatie van Guiry (2024). Het geslacht omvat 59 soorten.[2][3]
Kenmerken
De soorten uit dit geslacht zijn met het blote oog zichtbare groenalgen die bestaan uit kleine buisvormige draadjes, soms vertakt. Ze kunnen voorkomen in dichte bundels en wel 40 centimeter hoog worden. Veel soorten hebben een endofytische relatie met een bacterie, wat bijdraagt aan hun overleving.
